    Why wouldn't it work for reading?  If the address reads $ff, you can
    connect another chip there, and the values are wired-anded together
    (remember, this is NMOS logic, not CMOS).  I don't remember if I made
    use of this property in my MMU expansion for the C128 (4 RAM banks
    instead of 2).
