In fact, changing the crystal (and divider) "removed" the colors in my
Philips television set, and fine-adjusting the frequency didn't help.
I still don't know why, but of course I didn't investigate it any
further.

Converting VIC20 from PAL to NTSC though.. That's much more fun than
simply changing the VIC-II chip. <g>
