PET 50Hz vs. 60Hz screens?

Hi there,

I was recently asked an interesting question. 

Is it possible to take a 50Hz PET (with CRTC) and run it with 60Hz timing?
Same the other way round, can I take a 60Hz PET and run it with 50Hz timing?

What are the limits of the screen hardware with respect to timing etc?

Is there a difference in that between the 9" and the 12" screens?
