JFTR: The above links show how to replace the PLA with an EPROM.

Jens advertised his "SuperPLA"
(http://www.jschoenfeld.com/products/SuperPLA_e.htm. AFAIK, this does
not use an EPROM, but a chip more suitable for this task.
