Is this true for hires-multicolour as well?

And a darn good idea it is. It was something like this that I was
looking for. Since sprites will only appear on the ground, I can still
use character colour on buildings and other inaccessible parts of the
landscape. Great :)

The game won't be running in 50 fps, so memory will be tighter than
CPU.
