Have a look at ftp.funet.fi:/pub/cbm/firmware/pet/petio.txt. It has
a short description of the banking. There is a more expanded version
of that file, somewhere, that contains the complete 8296 reference manual
that I typed in. I don't know why it isn't on funet - I thought it was
at one time. (The reference manual explains some of the jumpers - very
useful. I turned some of the "missing" 32K RAM into "EPROMS")

A 8296 emulator would be very nice! It would not be too hard to make
2001, 3001, 40xx and 80xx versions too - there are only small hardware
differences visible from software, after all (6545 or not, 1K or 2K of
screen memory, where the number of ghost images varies per model, or
something like that)
