Thanks, Nicolas and Ruud, for your answers! I asked the guy to make a better
picture of the adapter board. The one I have seen

was made with an embedded camera in a mobile phone. You can see a crack
at the top edge of the board in the guy's hand, near pin 3 of the IC.
This board is probably the same as the one at the top of
<URL:http://www.student.oulu.fi/~taliukko/Wanhaa/Levariemo.jpg>,
attached to a power cable, a ribbon cable and some other cables.
The crack would be on the left-hand-side of that board. The main
feature of that photo is the drive controller board. There's also
a nice shot of the system body (with monitor and keyboard removed),
