Andreas Boose once told me that the 8565 gets a bit hot when driven with 12
volts instead of 9, but it works (he wanted to test some timing-sensitive
stuff). It might burn the chip if left on for hours. I don't know how well
the 6569 works with 9 volts instead of 12.
