I guess that with "descendant" he means that the circular part of the
characters p and q is vertically aligned with the circular parts of d,
b and o. In the 8×8 Commodore character set, the p and q characters
are squeezed and don't look quite right.
(I didn't receive Daniele's message yet, so I'm only guessing what he
might have written.)
