the 1540 is the same as an early 1541 but with a different Firmware.
So, reparing it is the same as reparing a 1541.
And: Yes, these "speedup-commands" are not needed - in fact, they
aren't even present! Anyway, these are not needed with a 1541, either.
You can, but you don't need to with the 1541.
