I think the discussion went into the direction of running general existing
programs under that shell. For such a task a simple shell, maybe replacing
the tape routines as suggested would be the best option. I think the normal
wedges already come close - one could just switch wedge and basic input by
requiring the prefix for Basic.

GeckOS actually can run multiple BASIC instances in parallel, provided the
right machine with enough memory and memory management. I have ported MS
Basic to it and have for example run it over the serial line on my CS/A
Commodore PET clone. But not much of a chance that any of the pokes or sys
would work.
