I think that it should be possible. The flash chip only wants to see a 
activation sequence (something like accessing a sequence of addresses in 
the flash ROM) to be switched into write mode. I think that you have to 
be careful not to use those indexed addressing modes that would cause 
extra reads of the target address.

It was a long time ago, and I do not even know if I still have that 
hardware, or if I gave it to Ruud or silverdr along with most of my 
computer collection, back in 2008 or 2009. I only kept a few C64, C128 
and Vic-20.

Which address range does my Vic-20 flasher use again? BLK5? I am rather 
sure that I tested it with a blank flash chip. I do not remember that I 
would have actually used the flash board for anything else than writing 
the software.
