The command

cbmctrl download 8 0xc000 0x4000 rom.bin

would read out the drive's ROM into rom.bin. Then, it could be compared
to known ROM versions.

For reference: For 1570/1571 drives and others that have 32 KB of ROM,
the command would be 

cbmctrl download 8 0x8000 0x8000 rom.bin

Note that the command takes 2 to 3 minutes to complete!
