To be more clear - I have a number of "gadgets" (digital camera,
TI-86 calculator, Palm Pilot, Cybiko) that have 9-pin serial
cables.  These items ship with Windows based software that allows
data to be transferred to and from the camera, for example.

AFAIK, the protocols used to communicate back and forth between
the Windows PC and these gadgets are unknown.  I'd like a program
that would record all the data going in and out (through the COM
port) that I could then look through, and figure out how to write
a C64 program that would do what the Windows program is doing.

Doing it in another OS would not help, as there are not (AFAIK)
transfer programs written for other OSes.

This probably isn't the place to even be asking, but you are a
smart lot :)
