Sure, thats an option. I prefer to keep the spirit of the original. If we can make a direct clone with 6525 chip or fpga replacement chip would be my first choice. Since the 6525 is super rare and an fpga clone is not an option right now a chip like the d8255 which is also a tri-port chip is a realistic choice. I think making a fully fpga version would not be in the spirit of the design.
