Interesting. I had thought that the ROMs were more or less the same.

This leads to the question: How many versions of the 1541 PCB are
there? And how do they differ regarding the placement of the relevant
IC's?

If memory and ports should be modified on a 1541, it might aswell
contain the hardware neccesary for running some of the classic
parallell cable speeders too.

Btw 64er also had a DIY project for adding 40k RAM/EPROM to a 1541,
using 6264 SRAM / 2764 EPROM's, with the ability to mode 16k to the ROM
area to have RAM or EPROM instead of ROM, to run any firmware version.
