If they are the same then there are two possibilities: 1) use the 64er modified 1541 ROMs in a 2031. 2) reverse the 64er modification to apply the serial communication stuff on 2031 roms. That would make it easier to debug the problem for anyone fluent in the PC software but only has a 1541.
