Hey yall,

So, I've been using my rev 2B C65 with ram expansion for 15 years or so.

My rom rev is the 910624 binary I have on the ftp site.  With this rom
rev, I get compatibility with a few original demos, the ability to type
in programs and run them, and functional use of my ram expansion.  The
downside is that my main drive is completely unreliable -- I get
frequent file not found and drive not ready errors.  I always figured
this was a hardware problem, but keep reading.

Last month I decided to go crazy and try out all the newer revs, up to
and including the 911001patched.bin.

The newer roms give me the benefit of being able to run the newest demo,
but also amazingly made ALL my unreliable main drive problems completely
VANISH.  It was great!  However, it cost me both the recognition of my
ram expansion, and the ability to type in BASIC programs.  Any program I
attempt to type in is quickly corrupted for no reason, and hitting ENTER
on a line of code often takes 3-8 seconds to come back, even when there
is no corruption.

So, I went back to the rev 910624, because typing programs was more
important.

Has anyone ever examined the roms closely enough to inspire some clue
regarding this delima? Could the BASIC problems be caused by the
unrecognized REU?

- Bo
