No, it isn't. Even CBM supplied e.g. 1520 plotter that went beyond  
that. Not to mention third party devices. My regular setup, which is  
there to stay is always connected three CBM drives (1541, 1571, 1581).  
Additionally XM1541, uIEC. Occasionally printer and/or plotter  
connected. Other devices, which occupy device numbers (like IDE64 -  
13, 14) are not on the IEC bus.

So - yes, I agree - six devices is reasonable, eight is unlikely to  
get exceeded.
