Interesting: my (new style) Japanese keyboard has a normal \ key, no Yen symbol
or Katakana symbol either like on Philip's chiclet keyboard. Otherwise it looks the
same (aside from the different key locations of course).

Yes, I was careful to check that.
The Japanese PET has a Yen symbol on the keyboard, and no pound  
symbol. My new build of the character set includes the Yen symbol.
