Since you've just put a new mechanism in, the controller won't be able to
find the DOS files.  At least, that's what the controller's behavior sounds
like.

Disconnect the parallel cable, if you have it, terminate the mechanism, leave
it on SCSI ID 0, and put the controller into install mode. Run the "Create
Sys" utility from the HD Utilities floppy disk.  Be sure you use the latest
DOS version that goes with your boot ROM.
