Right.  I know a little bit about the architecture of the x040 and
8x50 boards and I don't know of any reasons it _can't_ work.

Naturally there are no guarantees.  I hope to be able to build on your
work when it gets far enough along (but first, I'll probably try a
1541HD since I have *lots* of 1541 drives).
