A C64 cluster is an obvious thing to aspire to if you want to build a
polyphonic synthesizer out of SID chips. At the moment the easiest way to
do it is to buy one or more HardSID cards and run them in a PC with the
HardSID MIDI software.
Some years ago some work was done on a simple C64 ring network using the
CIA serial ports. It was found that pull-ups are required on the serial
output lines, because the rise times of the CIA outputs with their internal
passive pull-ups (depletion mode NMOS FETs no doubt) are not sufficiently
quick to enable high speed operation.
