I feel your pain...I had been working so hard to get a drive to work.
I really wanted to have a working drive for the Vintage Computer
Festival East this year, but no luck. Here are more things that
I did to finally get a D9090 the drive to work with an ST-225, in
addition to what I wrote last time:
1. First cook the hard drive for 3 minutes in the oven at 150 F
degrees (C?) to liberate the lubrication in the drive.
1.5 Low level format the drive in an IBM XT first using diagnostics,
etc.
2. Because the ST-225 is smaller than the Tan 603s you should put
in new spacers for the drive cards. It seems like if the top card
is stressed/bent at all it will not work. I also had to use plastic
spacers, not metal. Don't let the two cards come in contact with
each other.
3. Run the drive for 10-15 minutes before I power on the computer
4. Run the command ?ds$ to make sure I get an all clear (73...)
from the drive computer.
5. Pray
