Or if you have Vi(m) experience instead, you can use the 'xxd' command
that comes with Vim to make a hex-and-ascii dump, which may be a bit
friendlier on the eyes than hex alone. And Vim's diff mode (vim -d) is
very convenient to view/edit 2 files side by side concentrating on the
differences.
