International bank transfer is not available in all countries, or it could be
prohibitively expensive.  For example, my bank offers the "cheap" transfer
(6 or 7 EUR per transaction or about the same in USD) only to the EUR countries
plus a few others (but not e.g. Canada).

Would 5 UK pounds be enough?  I have one lying around.
