I have compiled the modem settings from all the previous answers into a
short table (see below). The information for the 1660 and 1670 modems
seem to be inconsistent. Comments/clarifications/corrections please.
1660 Modem Jumper
A jumper trace is located between two small squares on edge of the circuit
board on the bottom of the modem next to the edge connector.
Cutting this trace disables the carrier detect and makes the modem behave
like a 1650 modem. This is required for the Plus/4, and failure to do it
may damage the modem.
Older 1670 Modem (3 DIP switches)
Switch Up Down
1 Single-line connection Multiple-line connection
(Use if there is anything
other than a single phone
circuit on the connecting
cable.)
2 Analog loopback test Normal use
3 Enable carrier detect Disable carrier detect
(Required for Plus/4.)
Newer 1670 Modem (4 DIP Switches)
Switch Up Down
1 Auto answer (The modem will No auto-answer
answer on the 2nd ring.)
2 Disnable carrier detect Enable carrier detect
(Required for Plus/4.)
3 Disable speed detect Enable speed detect
4 Enable DTR detect DTR always on.
