C64 and VGA monitor

Hi!

Since my Philips 8833-II have died on me (RIP) I've been trying to find
something better than a TV to use with my C64. I've found plenty of "video
to VGA" converters which claim to support "all video standards". The
problem, ofcourse, is that the C64 doesn't follow the standard and output
50.12Hz PAL instead of 50.00Hz.

I once tried to use a C64 as the input to an Amiga genlock, long before I
knew about the 50.12Hz issue, and noticed that it wouldn't sync but give a
rolling display. The obvious question is wether those video to VGA
converters will have a similar problem syncing, or if they, like any TV,
will be able to handle it. There are also many devices that allows watching
TV on a VGA monitor, but the problem might still be the same.

I'm looking for a standalone solution rather than some capture card for a
PC.

Any suggestions?

Best regards,

Mathias Roslund
