Sure, you've radically changed the premise. The scarcity of the movies 
available was the point.

Similar to how people bought sinclair spectrums over other more 
expensive and capable systems There was a wall of spectrum games, 
compared to a few titles for the other systems and the spectrum was way 
cheaper.

My 1979 TV didn't have a composite input, you'd need to remember to take 
a VHF adapter (I don't recall ever seeing a DVD player with one built in).
