It depends on the competition of course.

In the uk it seems people are prepared to buy them off ebay and strip 
them. They drive the price higher than what most people would be 
prepared to take a punt on.

They then strip them and sell the parts that when added together would 
be more expensive than buying a whole c64.

But if you want just a part then paying less for just that one part that 
you know works, than you would for an unknown c64 seems like a much 
better idea.

The people buying them to strip them need to cover their costs and their 
losses when they get scammed.

If I get scammed then I have no way to make up my losses over time as 
I'm only buying one.
