I'm Dutch and have lived in Australia over 30 years. I don't have a 
Dutch accent (rather speak Dutch with an Australian accent which is 
unusual and apparently entertaining when I was in NL last) but I'm still 
misunderstood quite often in Australia because I don't beat around the bush.
