Which one did you use? www.pollin.de has a perfect fit for the old C64 
and Plus/4 supplies for less than 5 Euros: Astrodyne OFM-0101 (5V,2A). 
Order nr. is 350 765. If you clean out the empty space in the PSU 
completly, the PCB fits perfectly.

It's also adjustable, so you can have the 5.2V if you need them.

Can be done with most PSUs, but some have too much resin in them and you 
can't reach the 230V contact on the transformer. For those your only 
choice is the little regulator from ebay.

Again: You need to work on 230V for this, don't, unless you know what 
you're doing.
