This has never worked for me- I've always had to remove the diodes on the board
to get that to work.  The poke won't disable those.  

However, after you've removed them, you can have two C64's on the bus, or a PC
with transfer cable and one C64, etc.  I've never had a machine damaged doing
this, but of course don't plug/unplug while they are on, and ground yourself
from static.
