Yes, my bad. I haven't used older 1541 firmware than the 901229-05.
About 10 years ago, when I collected firmware images for archival,
I compared them. The only difference I considered essential back then
was the auto-boot feature (automatic execution of the "&*" command when
the CLK and DATA lines are held low).
There must be some difference in the serial bus timing, then. I just
reviewed the state diagram I sketched 3 years ago when implementing the
serial bus protocols for the C2N232. I can't come up with any obvious
explanation of the hang. I guess it's time to compare the hexdumps
and fire up the disassembler again. And finally find out which
parameters are affected by the UI- and UI+ commands.
