Are all programs in a single file, or do some programs load something
after they have been started? For single-file programs, .prg would be the
optimal format. I'd like to get these programs on ftp.funet.fi, but as I
don't have a disk drive for my PET yet (nor have even set up my PC at
home), I'd like to have descriptions for the files, like in the 00INDEX
files at ftp.funet.fi. I can convert the .d64 file to .prg files, that's
no problem, but I'd like to have those descriptions.

Your web server did properly say "Content-Type: application/octet-stream".
Had it lied "text/plain", the Windows version of Netscape (at least
version 3) would have mangled the file anyway, no matter how you try to
download the file. Another reason not to use Windows.
