you should keep in mind that many of the early collections, especially
the high voltage cds (aka bod-cds), contain a LOT of broken disc images
(caused by bugs in the early transfer programs, and also broken source
discs). so one important thing to do is testing every single program
before putting it into new collections. (yes i realize this is an insane
amount of work)

however, you guys might look through CSDB - there are some ppl that
have started to centralize the efforts of making an archive of that
kind a while ago, and they already collected a _huge_ amount of stuff
(more than 10 dvds if i remember correctly). they also tested and
catalogized a lot of programs already, and afaik they also have a
way to sync several archives easily (probably using a script like
clearmame or simelar).
