thanks for the suggestion. I've already found the 74191 type of ICs.
Unfortunately, I need 4 of them to get an 16 bit counter, and I also
need a bus driver to interface them with the MPU: Unfortunately, this is
way too much for our purpose because we need a very small interface PCB
only.
