I did some more searches but couldn't find anything really useful except the
fact that the XT-registers don't look at all like the AT-ones. One fact is
that the PC10 only recognises 4 addresses. The AT-bus needs at least six. So
if I want to replace the XT-HD with an AT-one, I have to find out if it is
possible to address the extra registers at all.
More worrying is the fact that I even don't know if the pinouts of the bus
are the same. If that indeed is the case I can forget my plans of replacing
the original disk. In that case I better can swith to another idea: I have
an 8-bits IDE-card laying around. The fantastic thing about this card is
that it totally is made out of normal TTL-IC's ie. reproducable. Then it is
just a matter of hacking the original ROM to let it cooperate with larger
HD's.
