I think it has been discussed elsewhere (in comp.sys.cbm?) whether
the UI- mode/command is properly implemented on 1571 or not. But
even if it is missing, a VIC-20 to my knowledge doesn't automatically
force the unit into that mode and it should not be the reason why
it doesn't work.
(disclaimer: I've never owned a 1571 or 1581, so I couldn't test myself
with my VIC, but I have a vague memory of at least one success story
involving the 1581 and VIC-20 ?)

Hm. The manual says 25%, and I have only been able to measure 15-20%
on VIC-20 tests using 1541-II. Does the 64HDD solution speed up more
than expected?
