The timing diagrams in the VICE source code are rather good. I have drawn
a finite state automaton on a piece of paper. I took a picture of it and
reduced it with GIMP to a 70-kilobyte 16-color PNG file. Later, I'm going
to draw it in MetaPost (a textual language for embedding professional-looking
pictures in TeX documents) and produce a PDF document of the state machine.
But first I'm going to implement the state machine, to see if there are any
errors in it.
If someone is interested in helping me with the picture, I can provide the
PNG file. The PDF file could also document the higher-level procedures
and not just the primitives (the transmission of bytes under ATN, the
talker-listener role swap and the transmission of bytes without ATN).
