According to a booklet put out by the US Department of Commerce, Japan is
50 Hz, 100 V.  This is what I remember from Japaneese equipment that I
have worked on.

No, but I did use the UI- command.  I suppose I could try that, and  with
the original long board too.  That will take a little longer.

The sympom was:  the disk drive seemed to execute the commands, it went 
through the motions, but the VIC 20 acted as if it had received nothing.
