Um..

The C-128 boots to CP/M from it's own special CP/M bootdisks, which are
GCR.

If you are the proud owner of a 1571 or 1570 drive, you can also use MFM
encoded disks, but not on the 1541.

I don't think it's possible to boot from MFM disks, because the 157x is in
GCR mode when you fire the machine up and it starts looking for the boot
sector.

As you might know, the 1571 enabled C-128 users to read quite a large
selection of different GCR and MFM formats using CP/M. Too bad the machine
itself is quite slow in the CP/M mode, I guess more people would have
used it for that if it were faster?

Don't know that much - I never liked / wanted to use CP/M, I guess I've
missed out on something wonderful (according to some people). Never liked
DOS that much either having been raised into the multitasking gui world
with an Amiga.. ;-) (the Amiga's shell was nicer than DOS too..)
