I'm talking about the black datasette with the white keys that was mounted
in the front panel of the PET. The source of this recorder has never been
identified.
Today I came across a recorder that is identical to the PET Datasette!!
Well, almost identical. It is a different color. The top half is dark
brown and the bottom half is a light cream color and the record key is
red. And, of course, the circuit board is different and all the original
controls and speaker are in it, but the shape, size, and mechanical parts
are identical.
The label on the top side says:
PRECOR
PORTABLE CASETTE RECORDER
AUTOMATIC LEVEL CONTROL
The lable on the bottom:
PRECOR
Model C-1800 R
5-Transistor
6V DC, "C" CELLx4
CUSTOM MFD IN TAIWAN FOR PANORAMA RADIO
& ELECTRONIC CORP. MADE IN TAIWAN R.O.C.
Notice, it does not say it was made BY Panorama, but FOR Panorama, but it
does say it was made in TAIWAN. If it truly was a custom design of
Panorama, then only Panorama could use the design.
Conclusion: The PET Datasette is a Precor C-1800 R
from Panorama Radio & Electronic in Taiwan.
If I can find someone with a digital camara, I will supply pictures.
