I can start to load the file and when getting the first byte I know it exists. But I have no idea how to end the whole process in a clean way. > Another routine I ran into is 'Input a byte from channel' at $F157 which results in reading a byte at $F1B5. But how to get there is not completely clear (yes, open a file, but how in assembly) but also here: how to end it a a neat way. I thought I also had something for exactly checking file presence but I don't seem to be able to find it in my lib. In general though the process should be like (from protein-based memory) - try to open the file for reading - check for success/failure - close the file You don't need to load or even read anything from the file. It's a sequence of SETLFS, SETNAM, OPEN calls. My (very generic so more complex than you need) open_file is also here: https://cld.silverdr.com/s/g69rzLK7ZoDm35F There you can see the sequence in action too.
