I guess you mean the model with the larger CRT, that's also used in the
80 column models?

Those are also called Fat-40, either because their "head" is bigger than
was usual before, or (and I like this version better) because the
characters are a lot wider than before.

My guess is that a previous user didn't like the wide characters and
wanted the old aspect ratio back.
