TBH this reminds me a little of what's happening in the JS world, in the negative sense, and is an attitude completely alien to me. When I began my PLD experiments I even consciously chose VHDL as my primary HDL so that it does not resemble anything I know and use for software development. When writing VHDL I have far less moments when software programming habits kick-in. Obviously YMMV as always.
