Why does the VIC 1540 name itself 'V170'?

Hello,

some small details that I found surprising is that the 1540 names itself
'V170' in the power-on status message (73,CBM DOS V2.7 V170,00,00).

All the other drives (2031, 1541, 1570, 1571, 4040, 8250, 8050) report
themselves correctly, only the 1540 seems to be attributed wrong.

Does anyone know why? Is it some internal 'developer name' that was used
while developing the 1540? As it has "nearly" 170 KB of storage, it
might be related to that, too, but that would also apply to the 2031.

Any other ideas, proofs, sources?

Regards,
Spiro.
