You mentioned voltage meter in your original note.  Neitehr OHMS nor 
VOLTS will do much good on most TTL logic.

Well, if it will take voltage up to 9V, just buy a small 9V battery clip 
and use that.  But, if you know the voltage on the 64 is at least 5V, 
just use it.  The logic problem no doubt filters the power coming in, so 
ripple or other issues with power should not be an issue.
