In my MOS dead parts collection I have 2 x 7707 (and some 7708, 7709,
7713). I've never repaired an US C64, since I have just one of them
and it's still on the bench (waiting for a virgin PLA to come). It
has no 77xx parts though.

So I'd say it's quite random when or where you'll find some 77xx
parts. I've found them on 1541s too.
