I was thinking about clamping the switch to the side of the computer.  You 
can then run 2 wires to the PCB where the wires for the caps lock are 
soldered. No need to modify anything. There used to switched attachments 
that were done this way. The switch is clamped to the side of the base 
with the handle of the switch extending just below th case top.
